Strong OVC representation at the North American Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Association's 2018 meetingOctober 2018

The Hurtig and Koch labs were both strongly represented at the recent 2018 NAVRMA meeting in Sacramento, September 5-9th.
Dr. Hurtig, Master student Candace Flynn and undergraduate student Kristen Lamers represented the Hurtig lab. Dr. Koch, postdoctoral fellow Sarah Lepage and PhD Candidate Hamed Alizadeh represented the Koch lab. PhD Candidate Ian Tobias represented former OVC faculty member and current adjunct faculty in BMS, Prof. Dean Betts.
Both Hamed and Sarah had abstracts accepted for oral presentation. Sarah won 2nd price for her presentation entitled "Equine cord blood MSCs have greater differentiation and similar immunosuppressive potential to donor-matched cord tissue MSCs". Hamed presentation entitled "Cell identity, proliferation, and cytogenetic assessment of equine umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stromal cells" was well received and his work was just published in Stem Cells and Development September 25th. Congratulations to both Sarah and Hamed on these achievements! Ian Tobias from the Betts lab at Western won 3rd prize for his oral presentation entitled "Canine embryo-derived and induced pluripotent stem cells; contributions, challenges and perspectives".
In the poster competition Candace Flynn won 2nd prize for her poster entitled “Serial imaging and arthroscopy provides evidence that intra-articular cell therapy changes the trajectory of osteoarthritis”. Congratulations Candace! Kristin Lamers poster entitled “Intra-articular cell therapy alters the synovial fluid immune profile in osteoarthritis” was also well attended.
Thomas was elected the new Chair of NAVRMA and will be hosting the 2019 meeting in Niagara on-the-Lake, September 8-11th () so mark your calendars!
