June 4, 2010 - The horse industry came together for an evening of great conversation, live entertainment, and the highlight, both a live and silent auction – all supporting Equine Guelph’s education programs. Dignitaries, including; Liz Sandals, MPP – Guelph Wellington and Karen Chan, Assistant Deputy Minister - OMAFRA opened the Gala at the Equine Expo admiring Carson’s 6-horse hitch. Guests were welcomed by Dr. Elizabeth Stone, dean, Ontario Veterinary College, Gayle Ecker, director, Equine Guelph and Cindy Schickedanz, Alltech Canada, the evening’s major sponsor.
It was standing room only with over 200 horse enthusiasts enjoying wine from Palatine Hills Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake accompanied by local food delights served from the “There’s No Taste Like HOME” catering transport trailer operated by Ontario Corn Fed Beef and the Ontario Cattle Feeders’ Association, while listening to Rockwood’s Full Turnout Band. Famed auctioneer, David Carson encouraged the crowd to give generously while bidding on a range of items, everything from a Blackberry to riding lessons; from a special night at Mohawk Raceway to portraits of a favourite pet; to a BBQ unit. Over 80 items were generously donated with approximately $8500 being raised in support of Equine Guelph’s education programs.
Equine Guelph would like to thank all who attended and thank the generous donors of the auction items.
