Plus, Dr. Jeff Thomason joining EquiMania! at the Alltech World Equestrian Games
University of Guelph’s Dr. Jeff Thomason and Dr. Keith Betteridge are two recipients awarded funding from the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. The Grayson and Barbaro Fund supports equine research with a total of $889,697 going towards 19 projects in 2010. Dr. Betteridge will investigate factors associated with success and failure of early pregnancy. Dr. Thomason will focus on the effects of varying degrees of racetrack banking on horses’ hooves.
Dr. Thomason has also been asked to speak at the Alltech World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. The invitation was extended by Dr Scott Morrison of Rood and Riddle and will be held at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital for the Veterinary Sport Horse Symposium from September 22 – 24, 2010. Dr. Thomason will present, Thursday Sept 23 at 2pm, on the impact and forces acting on the hoof as it collides with the ground, how the hoof withstands those loadings, and the effect of shoes and surfaces on the collision.
Equine Guelph’s EquiMania! will also be in Kentucky as the Official Youth Education Centre for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.
