Campbellville – In partnership with Grand River Raceway, the Ontario Harness Horse Association held the third of its seven planned ‘OHHA Nights’ on Friday July 20th. The first two events took place earlier this summer at Windsor Raceway and Western Fair in London.
Included in the group of over 50 guests were local politicians Ted Arnott, MPP for Waterloo-Wellington, and Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph-Wellington. Also in attendance were Dr. Elizabeth Stone, Dean of the Veterinary College at the University of Guelph, Jean Szkotnicki, President of the Animal Health Institute and Gayle Ecker, Senior Manager at Equine Guelph.
The night started with OHHA guests meeting with horsepeople and having the opportunity to drive a race horse with one of Ontario’s drivers: Dave Boughton, Mike Whelan, Brian Tropea or Wayne Henry. For many participants this was their first experience having the ‘lines in their hands’. Following the time with the 'horses' there was a brief reception, dinner and then a trip to the winners’ circle to have their pictures taken.
"I had a great night of fun and learned a lot about the horse racing industry," said MPP Liz Sandals. Grand River Raceway is certainly a jewel in our community.
OHHA plans on hosting its next event at Kawartha Downs in mid-August.
